Course Description:
This course continues preparation for students who plan to go on to college. Students will study a comprehensive array of literature that includes short stories, drama, poetry, and novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, A Separate Peace, The Secret Life of Bees, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will also work to improve their creative and analytical writing skills by completing a series of challenging assignments. MCAS review will prepare students for that test wth a goal of scoring at the Proficient or Advanced level.
Grading:
The grades for the course will be broken down in the following manner:
20% Participation
(Attendance, Citizenship, and Classroom Contribution)
35% Assignments
(Homework, Type 1/2/3 Writing, Journal, Notebook,
Presentations, Performance, Screenplay Scenes)
45% Formal Assessments
(Quizzes, Tests, Type 4/5 Writing, Research Projects,
Video Projects)
Late essays or projects will lose 10 points per day. Cheating or plagiarism will result in a zero.
